Rewards and Privileges of Performing Umrah in Islam

Umrah attains immense rewards and privileges in Islam and it is placed at a high level of spirituality and soul purification for the Muslims. Umrah is a Sunnat-e-Muakkadah of our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) and it can be performed at any time of the year. As narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA), Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) said:

“The guests of Allah are three: The Ghazi (the warrior who fights in Jihad), the Hajj (the pilgrim who performs Hajj) and the Mutamir (the pilgrim performing Umrah).”

It is such a privilege and an absolute beautiful reward to be the guest of Allah and the Almighty is your host with all the mercy and grace offering unlimited rewards for your worship and prayers. Therefore, after performing Umrah the Muslims feel a certain level of internal peace, soul satisfaction and spiritual confinement.


  1. Elimination of Poverty

As narrated by Ibn Abbas (RA), Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) said:

“Perform Hajj and Umrah consecutively; for they remove poverty and sin as bellows removes impurity from iron.”

It is probably an unexpected reward for the Muslims that performing Umrah eliminates poverty. However, the millions of Muslims from worldwide do not go to perform Umrah for this particular reward as this privilege comes as a bonus.   1. Redemption of Sins

As narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA), Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said:

“From one Umrah to another is expiation for what comes in between, and ‘Hajj Al-Mabrur’ brings no reward less than Paradise.”

It is simply a remarkable reward for the Muslim pilgrims to expiate all their sins by the grace and forgiveness of Allah. Therefore, if anyone gets a chance or opportunity to perform Umrah he/she should not miss it in order to seek this award sincerely. Thus, keep asking for the forgiveness and redemption of sins and you will achieve this award eventually as it is Allah’s promise.


  1. Visit to the City of Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H)

Madina is the place where the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) and his companions managed the Muslim Ummah’s affairs and where the compilation of Holy Quran took place. Therefore, Madina is also a Holy city for the Muslims and as it is located nearby Makkah, the pilgrims who goes to perform Umrah also gets the privilege to visit Madina and mark their presence at Masjid-e-Nabwi.


  1. Equal to Jihad for Certain Muslims

“Jihad of the elderly, the young, the weak and the women, is Hajj and Umrah.”

Jihad is also considered as the sixth and the most significant pillar of Islam and it attains great rewards. The person who dies while participating in Jihad is considered to be directly entered in paradise with all the rewards and blessings.
